We actively pursue students from a broad socio-economic range; however, we also expect each family to meet a fair portion of the cost of an independent school education. We provide numerous resources to ensure a Gaston Day School education is within the grasp of all deserving students. Candidates for financial assistance should be aware of the required guidelines and procedures.

Financial Assistance Guidelines and Procedures
- 1. Prior to receiving financial assistance, each applicant must apply for admission, complete the admission screening process, and receive admission to the school. The admission and financial assistance process may occur simultaneously; however, no award will be made until the student has been offered admission.
- 2. All applicant families must complete the financial assistance application online at www.factstuitionaid.com& Please allow 3-4 weeks for your application to be processed. Faxed or copied applications will not be accepted.
- 3. Financial assistance decisions are made on an on-going basis beginning in the spring of each year and continuing into the summer until funds are depleted. Financial assistance applicants will receive notification of the assistance award by mail.
- 4. Special consideration will be given to the following:
- Current families receiving financial assistance
- Current families wishing to enroll additional children
- Families with merit scholarship students
- Families who would add to the diversity of the school
- Must maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA.
- Must maintain a positive relationship with classmates and teachers.
- Must display exemplary conduct.
- Must actively participate in school related activities.
- While not an explicit requirement for financial assistance, active involvement of recipient families in the life of the school is strongly encouraged.

Merit Scholarships
Gaston Day School is committed to attracting the most talented and engaged student body possible. To this end, merit scholarships are available to incoming students in grades 3-12 in areas of scholastic achievement, visual arts, and performing arts. The amount of these renewable scholarships varies. Students possessing exceptional achievement in the above reference areas are encouraged to apply.
Junior Scholars Program
- 1. An "A" average in previous school course work as reflected on most recent official transcript.
- 2. 90th percentile or higher on North Carolina EOG testing or other approved achievement testing.
- 3. Successful completion of the Gaston Day School academic evaluation.
- 4. Successful completion of the Gaston Day School admissions requirements including letters of recommendation, school records, and placement testing.
Visual Arts Scholars Program
The Visual Arts Scholars program is made available to students in seventh through twelfth grades. A successful applicant for the Visual Arts Scholars program will possess all of the following:
- 1. Submission of a current visual arts portfolio consisting of no less than 8 works of art.
- 2. Submission of a one-page letter of intent which includes honors, awards, and other recognition.
- 3. Successful completion of the Gaston Day School admissions requirements including letters of recommendation, school records, and placement testing.
Performing Arts Scholars Program
The Performing Arts Scholars program is made available to students in seventh through twelfth grades. A successful applicant for the Performing Arts Scholars program will possess all of the following:
- 1. Submission of a video tape demonstrating outstanding talent and performance experience.
- 2. Submission of a one-page letter of intent which includes honors, awards, and other recognition.
- 3. Successful completion of the Gaston Day School admissions requirements including letters of recommendation, school records, and placement testing.
W. Duke Kimbrell Scholarship Program
The W. Duke Kimbrell Scholarship Program is made available to students in ninth through twelfth grades. The W. Duke Kimbrell Scholarship is a renewable academic scholarship which covers the full cost of tuition, excluding fees. This prestigious scholarship may be offered to one distinguished student per academic year. A successful applicant for the W. Duke Kimbrell Scholarship program will possess all of the following:
- 1. A grade point average of no less than 3.75 (unweighted) as reflected on most recent official transcript.
- 2. 90th percentile or higher on North Carolina EOG testing or other approved achievement testing.
- 3. Successful completion of the Gaston Day School academic evaluation.
- 4. Successful completion of the Gaston Day School admissions requirements including letters of recommendation, school records, and placement testing.
- 5. Successful completion of a personal interview with the scholarship committee.
Scholarship Guidelines
Candidates for scholarships should be aware of the following:

- 4. Once enrolled, scholarship award recipients must fulfill the following to be eligible for renewal:
- Performing Arts and Visual Arts scholars must maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA.
- Junior Scholars and W. Duke Kimbrell scholars must maintain a cumulative 3.5 GPA.
- All scholarship recipients must maintain a positive relationship with classmates and teachers.
- All scholarship recipients must display exemplary conduct.
- All scholarship recipients must actively participate in school related activities.
